‘We realised St Nicks had just made history’

- CONOR CARTY

I’M Conor Carty and we qualified for Féile in Kerry where we were hosted by Rathmore.

We travelled as a 26-panel team from Dunlavin by bus on Friday morning. We stopped in Mallow for some lunch and then on to Rathmore.

Our first match was against St.Brigids and we won 7-12 to 0-0. We then faced Duarigle Gaels and we were beaten 3-5 to 1-10.

After we had played all our matches we had food in Rathmore clubhouse and the Kerry player, Paul Murphy presented us all with a gift. Then we met our host families and headed off.

Saturday morning we played our hosts Rathmore and we won 3-7 to 1-4 which meant we topped the group and qualified for the quarter final in Clondrohid.

We went by bus to Clondrohid where we played them and we won 3-12 to 0-2 so we were in the semi finals.

We headed to Ballyvourney for lunch and then to Killarney for the parade.

Rathmore hosted New York girls too so they had a disco later that night for all of us.

Sunday morning the nerves were very high when we got on the bus to Mallow.

Our semi-final was against Gweedore from Donegal and we won 3-5 to 2-2 which meant it a nail biting wait until 2pm where we faced our hosts Rathmore in the final.

We got off to a good start going into half time leading 3-2 to 0-3, we kept the momentum going and won the match 4-2 to 1-4.

We soon realised when the final whistle blew Nicks had made history and the celebrations started.

We headed for home with the cup to meet at the Market House for 7pm where we travelled in Gavin Walshe’s truck through the town.

The support was unbelievable throughout the whole weekend and it continued as we made are way up the town and to the clubhouse.

On behalf of the team we would like to thank all the supporters and families and friends and a special thanks to Mickey, Eddie, Michael and Eoin.
