WICKLOW ROVERS

-

Well finally we have came to a conclusion on the playing field in the junior section of the club and what a thrilling conclusion it was.

Our Under-13Bs were taking on Coolboy Rangers in the final of the Division 1 Shield in Vartry Park, home of Roundwood AFC, in midweek action to bring the curtain down on our junior section.

Normal time failed to separate the two teams with the final score at the end of ordinary time tied at 2-2.

This was an excellent game of football with both sides playing their part, two Luke Horan goals ensured Rovers would keep their shield hopes alive and send the game to extra time.

In extra time both sides had their chances but it wasn’t until the dying seconds that one of those chances were taken, thankfully for the lads it was Ben Free who popped up with the decisive goal in the last minute giving their opponents little time to reply.

The lads ran out 3-2 winners in a thrilling encounter in what was a great advert for football, an excellent sporting occasion.

Congratulations to Rob, Colm and the team on their successful season capturing a fantastic double winning both the Division 1 Cup and Shield. Well done, lads.
