WICKLOW ROVERS

-

There were goals a plenty in the Whitegates last week when our senior ladies took on another team who have dropped down to their league in the shape of Enniskerry.

The girls lost 10-5 but in truth this game could have ended up 10-10 as the girls did have other chances. Both teams looked like scoring every time they attacked.

The goal machine, Rachel Bolger, was at it again with a superbly taken hat-trick, the impressive Niamh O’Brien added a brace.

The girls were more than a match for their opponents and never gave up, if the girls can gain that little bit more experience they will trouble most teams.

On the night, Niamh O’Brien, Lucy McGettigan, Saoirse O’Reilly and Hannah Cox stood out for Rovers. Heads up girls, that elusive first win is just around the corner.

Well things couldn’t have gone better for the first week of our annual summer soccer/fun camp. Last week saw 102 kids participate in our camp and they were blessed with glorious sunshine for the whole week, not a drop of rain in sight.

The kids had a fantastic time enjoying themselves while also picking up some useful hints in the skills of football. There were definitely a lot of potential stars of the future on show, hopefully we might have witnessed a future Ronaldo, Messi, Pogba or even a Darren Randolph.

The kids were a joy to coach all week with everyone behaving to the highest standard. The club would like to thank all the kids for making the week so special, it was lovely to see them all out in their green jerseys.

A massive thanks to the kids parents for their continuous support of the club, this is very much appreciated. Finally a big thanks to all our coaches who helped out during the week.

The club are currently selling FAI National draw tickets, we would ask all club members to make an effort to try and sell some tickets.

This could be a great fundraiser for the club if the members get behind it. Anyone interested in purchasing a ticket can contact any committee member or any club member.

Full list of the prizes can be viewed on the club Facebook page. Also anyone interested in selling some tickets for the club please contact any committee member.

The club have recently set up a fundraising sub-committee, as we have a small executive committee it is not possible for this small group of people to carry out everything regards the running of the club.

These people are at their maximum capacity regards work they are doing for the club. We would ask new people to put themselves forward and come onto this very important sub-committee to help our club make the progress we all would like to see.

If you are interested in helping your club out please contact any committee member so we can put your name forward. Remember just don’t assume someone else is going to do it, come along and help your club.

Everyone at Wicklow Rovers AFC would like to extend their sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Veronica McCann who sadly passed away recently. Her grandson Adam played for our Under-13A team in the season just finished, our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time. May she rest in peace.
