SOUTH EAST ROAD CLUB

-

On Sunday last the South East Road Club held their annual youth 1 day. This event consists of a time trial in the morning and an afternoon road race.

This year’s event was the most successful ever with a record number of entries seeing riders from all over Ireland and even North Wales taking part.

In the morning’s time trial, the riders took advantage of a very strong tailwind posting some very excellent times.

The afternoon road race took on a 6km circuit on the N11 between Arklow and Gorey. It was all to race for in the Under-12 event with any one of six riders battling out for the overall honours. Congratulations to Adam Gilsen on taking first place overall.

Next up was the girls’ Under-14 and Under-16 race which saw some excellent riding with Meave Gallaher completing a clean sweep winning the time trial, road race, and the overall as well. Congratulations to Meave.

The Under-14 boys saw our very own Conor Shortt and Eoin Cooke taking part with both riding excellent time trials. Both riders rode well in the afternoon just finishing outside the prizes. Well done to Ryan Gerathy who dominated both races to take the overall honours.

The final event was the Under-16 boys race consisting of seven laps of the 6km circuit. An absolutely fantastic result for the South East Road Club with our very own Liam Curley dominating both races and taking top spot on the podium and the overall honours in fine fashion. Liam has been showing fantastic form of late having taking overall victory in the SERC summer league. A very special thanks to our youth development team of Ronan Shortt and Jason O’Toole.

Last, but not least, a special thanks to the hard working committee of Gareth McCabe, Willie Murphy, Tony Barnes, Ciaran Furlong, Stephen Furlong, Wayne Byrne, Ronan Shortt, Jason O’Toole, Michael Forde and John Canavan and to our members for marshalling, to the Red Cross ambulance service and to Pamela Shortt for the very fine food afterwards.

Our club spins continue every Sunday mornings leaving Fernhill plaza at 9.30am.
