Shotgun and rifle stolen from Rathdrum house

A bedroom window had been smashed open so the intruder or intruders could gain access. The alarm box fitted to the back of the house had also been dismantled.

Two shovels were located in the bedroom which was where the missing safe had been located. It contained a legally held shotgun and rifle, as well as some ammunition.

It appeared the shovels had been used to prize the safe from a wall.

Some documents were also missing.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the vicinity of Rathdrum on the evening and night in question.

A garda spokespers­on has advised gun owners to make sure their weapons are secure at all times in order to prevent any potential thefts.

According to the spokespers­on, ‘guns and ammunition should be kept in a safe which is bolted securely to a solid wall. This would greatly lessen the chances of potentiall­y dangerous guns or rifles falling into the wrong hands.’

Anyone who may be able to assist the gardaí with their investigat­ions should contact Wicklow Garda Station on (0404) 60140. Wicklow’s Mountain Rescue crews had a busy weekend responding to two separate call-outs last Sunday.

Just after 1 p.m. both the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team and the Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team were tasked by An Garda Siochanna to come to the assistance of a woman who had suffered injuries while out on White Hill.

She was treated at the scene by a Mountain Rescue hill party and was then stretchere­d down to Ballinasto­e Woods, where she was placed in a Mountain Rescue 4X4 vehicle.

Afterwards, she was transporte­d to Pier Gates where a HSE ambulance was waiting for her.

Later that same day, the gardaí got back in With this spell of good weather, the ESB is again reminding the general public of the dangers and potential serious consequenc­es of swimming in reservoirs.

There are often hidden dangers which the public may not be aware about.

This is due to the risk of uneven ground, deep waters, changing water levels and fast-flowing waters.

Reservoirs should be avoided at all times when considerin­g going for a swim. These waters include the reservoirs at Poulaphouc­a and Golden Falls. contact to make the two crews aware of a man in his 70s who had fallen down a steep bank in Cloghleagh.

He had been out walking with a friend when the accident occurred.

Blessingto­n Fire Service, Air Corps 112 and a HSE Ambulance were also on scene.

The man was treated at the site before being stretched to safety.

He was then airlifted onto Air Corps 112 before being transferre­d to hospital for further care.

Mountain Rescue would like to thank all different agencies involved in both rescues, including the HSE, Blessingto­n Fire Service and the Air Corps. The two incidents were the 42nd and 43rd call-outs of 2016.
