HACKETSTOWN and Scoil Conglais teenager Molly Scott won bronze in the women’s 100m Hurdles on Saturday at the European Youth Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia with a time of 13.51.

She was pipped on the line for silver by 3/100th of a second by Belarussian athlete Viktoryia Zakharchuk.

Italian Desola Oki blitzed the field with a time of 13.30. However Scott ran the second fastest time in the championships when she won her semi-final in a time of 13.32 which is also a national record.

She has also moved up to 18th in the European Rankings.

Seventeen year old Scott is a secondary school student in Scoil Conglais, Baltinglass and trains with the St. Laurence O’Toole athletic club in Carlow. She is trained by her mother Deirdre Scott is part of the Athletics Ireland Junior High Performance programme where she receives Strength & Conditioning Coaching at the Irish Institute of Sport.

She began her athletics career in 2009. Since then she has won numerous medals and accolades, including bronze in the 60m at the 2016 U20 British Indoor Championships in Sheffield, gold in the 80m Hurdles at the 2015 Schools International Athletic Board meet along with many other medals at Irish Schools events and Juvenile Championships.

Scott didn’t have much time to celebrate as she flew straight to Poland for the IAAF World U20 Championships and met up with her teammates to compete in the 4x100m relay heat on Friday evening at 5pm.

She has already achieved one of her goals by winning a medal at the European Youth Championships and we hope to see her winning many more medals in her future career.
