Kenny thrilled with his record breakers

- DANIEL GORMAN

at the Carlsle Grounds HARRY Kenny had no idea that his side had broken a club record on Friday evening. Peter Cherrie’s clean sheet against Finn Harps was his fifth in successive league matches; something that Bray Wanderers had never achieved before.

The three points was the primary achievement for Kenny but the former defender was also delighted with his airtight defence.

“Absolutely thrilled with the three points. We played very well. The first half was our best performance of the season – the way we knocked the ball around and the way we created chances. Everyone to a man was absolutely great tonight.

“When you’re keeping them out you always have a chance of winning games and we’re doing exactly that.

“We’re delighted with Peter’s form and the way he’s going at the moment but it’s a team game. It starts from the front and we work hard to keep clean sheets and it’s paying off.

Harps boss Ollie Horgan claimed that the Seagulls are in a false position and should be higher up the table and Kenny agrees with him given recent results.

Kenny now has to hope his side can maintain their focus until their next match on July 29th against Shamrock Rovers.

“Only in the last number of weeks I would say that. Prior to that we weren’t so good. In the last number of weeks, especially keeping the clean sheets and getting in the few new faces, our performance has improved immensely.

“You’d like to keep the momentum going and keep the results going but it is what it is and you just have to plough away. Rovers are next here and we’ll look forward to that.”

With Alan Byrne departing the club prior to Harps’ visit, it left a space in the squad but the Bray boss is in no urgent rush to add anyone else.

“The three or four that we have got in, we’re absolutely delighted with them.

“They’ve been very supportive – the chairman and the board – I’ve been absolutely thrilled with the way they’ve supported me requesting new players. The window has two weeks to go so we’ll see what happens.”

Conor Earley has returned to training while Dean Kelly (groin) and Mark Salmon (illness) are both expected to be fit for the Hoops’ visit.
