MINOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP: North Wicklow Gaels 4-13 Avondale Parnells 1-5 - With our own James Cahill and Brandon Scully impressing, the North group team got off to a flyer last Wednesday night in Avondale.

Well done to all involved, particularly James and Brandon and with Mark Mullen and Luke Dillon also to return to the squad, great to see a good representation from the club.

LADIES INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Enniskerry 5-16, Tinahely 4-9 - It was a great game in the end but started off a bit slow for the Enniskerry girls. Tinahely had a strong first half with their midfielders dominating most of their kick outs and plays throughout the field. Enniskerry battled through with keeping themselves on the score sheet and not allowing Tineahely completely run away with the game. There was some great scores by Orla Kearns, Ailish Kelly and Lyndsay Hipwell. Enniskerry went in at half time with a 1-4 to 4-4 deficit.

After a stern talk at half time the Enniskerry ladies gathered themselves and went out with fire in their bellies to let Wicklow know that Enniskerry exist. Enniskerry defenders Carol Kavanagha, Emer Ryan and Helen Kirwan stopped every Tinahely play that went past our 45 and Tinahely didn’t know what hit them. While our brick wall of the full back line with Jen McGrath, Naomi Kirnan and Bex Drew were solid and kept the Tinahely side away from the goal line. Keeper Katie Walsh had a better second game back after injury and is finding her confidence again with every game and training session. She guided the defenders along with Naomi Kirnan to a powerful second half play to only allowing Tinahealy a 5 point score in the entire second half. Our wing back Helen Kirwan even got herself on the score board with a cracker shot that hit the back of the net.

We also had another powerful performance by midfielders Shauna Kearns and Ciara Lily working the ball from the keepers hands to our forwards with great ease. Every one of the Enniskerry forwards connected well and worked hard for each other. Sophie Nolan and Orla Kearns were unstoppable, winning the majority of kick outs and punishing any mistake made by Tinahely with an impressive 3-9 between them in. Ailish Kelly definitely has found her shooting boots and even better when it was needed to help demolish the Tinahely side. Becca Murphy, Tara Brady and Lyndsay Hipwell were also part of the stunning performance by the forwards in the second half.

Enniskerry were back to their winning ways and plan to keep it going for the rest of their season.

Enniskerry next game is against Coolkenno in Enniskerry on the 7th August. Time tbc.
