Rathnew chalk up comfortable win
THIS Junior B championship match took place in Tinahely in good weather conditions. Rathnew got the first score immediately from the throw in where James Hunter was kicked in a high ball that he made no mistake with.
Brian Murphy kicked a point straight away to leave Rathnew two points to no score ahead. Tinahely soon settled down and Paul O’Keefe got the opener from a well won ball out in front of his man.
Rathnew kicked another long ball into their full-forward where he was fouled and the referee awarded Rathnew a penalty. Danny Quinn made no mistake from spot.
David Blake kicked a point for Tinahely to keep the scoreboard ticking. Tinahely were awarded a penalty at the other end minutes later where David Blake coolly slotted away. The half-time score was Rathnew 2-6, Tinahely 1-4.
The second-half saw Rathnew kick the first score and march on to a comfortable victory in the end.
Tinahely never gave up to the end and they can still qualify out of this group of they get something out of their next two matches.
