Rathnew chalk up comfortabl­e win

THIS Junior B championsh­ip match took place in Tinahely in good weather conditions. Rathnew got the first score immediatel­y from the throw in where James Hunter was kicked in a high ball that he made no mistake with.

Brian Murphy kicked a point straight away to leave Rathnew two points to no score ahead. Tinahely soon settled down and Paul O’Keefe got the opener from a well won ball out in front of his man.

Rathnew kicked another long ball into their full-forward where he was fouled and the referee awarded Rathnew a penalty. Danny Quinn made no mistake from spot.

David Blake kicked a point for Tinahely to keep the scoreboard ticking. Tinahely were awarded a penalty at the other end minutes later where David Blake coolly slotted away. The half-time score was Rathnew 2-6, Tinahely 1-4.

The second-half saw Rathnew kick the first score and march on to a comfortabl­e victory in the end.

Tinahely never gave up to the end and they can still qualify out of this group of they get something out of their next two matches.
