U-16s reach quarter-final

THE Wicklow U-16 panel have qualified for the All-Ireland quarter-final after a great display in the second blitz of the ‘Progress to Success’ series in Bailieboro, Co Cavan on Sunday.

The quarter-final will be played next weekend. This has followed training sessions in Ballinakil­l with mentor Ursula Jacob and coach Stephen.

Congratula­tions to the U-14 Developmen­t Squad who emerged as tournament winners at the recent outing in Carlow, with Player of the Tournament going to Maria Rafferty! The squad is on break and will resume training on August 11.

The Senior League final was played last night (Tuesday) between Glenealy and Knockanann­a in Aughrim county grounds under the watchful eye of referee John Keenan. Results were not available at time of going to press (see Wicklow County Camogie Facebook page and next week’s paper).

Meanwhile, the Senior Championsh­ip will start on August 2nd with Ballinacor v. Glenealy and Donard-The Glen v. Knockanann­a. The Intermedia­te Championsh­ips kick off on August 2nd with Kiltegan v. Carnew Emmets.

This is followed on August 9th by Kilcoole v. Kiltegan and on August 16th with Carnew Emmets v. Kilcoole.

The Junior Championsh­ip also starts on August 2nd with Bray Emmets v. Annacurra and Éire Óg v. Arklow Rock Parnells. This is followed on August 9th with Annacurra v. Éire Óg and Arklow Rock Parnells v Bray Emmets and August 16th will see Bray Emmets v. Éire Óg and Annacurra v. Arklow Rock Parnells.

The U-14 Championsh­ip quarter-finals will be played on August 8th with Knockanann­a v. DonardThe Glen in the first quarter-final. Carnew Emmets will play Kiltegan and the other two quarter-finals will see Bray Emmets v. Avondale and Éire Óg Greystones v. Aughrim/ Ballinacor.

The U-16 Championsh­ip will start on August 10th with Bray Emmets v. Donard-The Glen and Knockanna v. Carnew Emmets.

Commiserat­ions to Wicklow’s Poc Fada representa­tive Bernie Byrne (Senior) and Katie Toomey (U-16). They were presented with specially commission­ed hurls by David Moran after the contest on the Great Sugarloaf.

There will be a Wicklow Camogie three-day Summer Camp for 8-12 year olds in Hollywood GAA grounds on August 15, 16 and 17 from 10.30am-1.30pm. Cost: €30.
