The Annacurra passing was at times atrocious and a conservati­ve guess would suggest Annacurra gave the ball away through poor passing at least 10 times.

In the second half with the game in the melting pot and a goal between the teams, misplaced Annacurra passes led directly to two Hollywood points. These were hand-passes, not high risk 40-metre cross field balls on the outside of the foot.

All too often Hollywood could split Annacurra apart with midfielder Ciaran Tyrell performing exceptiona­lly well. Annacurra scored two points in the second half, frees from Clive Horan, and their last point came in the 47th minute. This won’t win too many matches.

Hollywood, evidently, didn’t have as many problems as Annacurra but kicked five wides in the second half when Annacurra were still in with a chance. They were very lucky they didn’t kick this game away while their goal came with a tinge of good fortune.

Tyrell really stepped up his performanc­e since the last day out against Coolkenno and made Martin O’Brien look ordinary. His hard running was too difficult to stop while he chipped in with three points.

Annacurra started the better in the first half and led by three points to no score after seven minutes, with each of the inside forward line Ian McDonald, Dylan Doyle, and Clive Horan scoring a point.

But Hollywood had already served notice they are dangerous with Conor Burke almost getting in for a goal only to direct the ball wide. Following the McDonald point Tyrell caught the kick out and ran unopposed to slot the ball over. Matthew Kelly and Bell added another two points to level the match.
