to dominate possession and pull further ahead. Sean McDonald led the charge, but Philip Doyle also showed a great nose for goal, and it soon became all out attack with only Matthieu DeBairead staying behind in defence and Cian McDonald in goals to mop up the sporadic Ballyroan attacks.

While Enniskerry ran out comfortable winners in the end, Ballyroan also contributed enormously to a sporting and very enjoyable game.

Junior’ B’ Football Championship Avondale 1-9, Enniskerry 1-13 - Footballers travelled to Rathdrum last Thursday night to take on the locals and came away with a vital win which guarantees us a quarter-final spot after a hard fought game

With the locals needing a win to avoid elimination from the championship, they were always going to come out with all guns blazing and after Seamus O’Gorman kicked a great score from play, Avondale hit a flurry of points from danger man Ian Heffernan to storm into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead.

Enniskerry started motoring then and kicked some fine points and when Gavin Barton stuck home a cracking goal to put us six points up we seemed to be well on our way but Avondale quickly replied with a well taken goal of there own to leave us 1-9 to 1-6 ahead at the break.

The second period descended into a battle of attraction, each time we threatened to pull away the locals came back at us but a superb Dan Kelly point settled us and we hung on for a deserved but hard fought win.

The points were shared by Gavin and Brendan Barton, Anto O’Neill, Kelly and O’Gorman and in what was a solid all round performance.
