The Under-14 team kept up their winning ways on Wednesday, July 13, with a very comprehens­ive win over Avondale. The final score was 9-08 to 1-05, however it didn’t look too promising in the opening 10 minutes when the Dales were up 1-02 to 0-01.

In a 10-minute spell just before half-time Derry Gaels hit six goals and two points and were out of sight. Oisin Dillon hit a hat-trick, Adam Keegan with two and Philip Toomey with one goal had the Dales defence in disarray.

Further goals from Dara O’Shea, John Moran and Dylan Lynch in the second half meant there was no come back from Avondale.

Scorers: O Dillon 3-00, A Keegan 2-3, D Lynch 1-02, D O Shea 1-01, J Moran 1-01, P Toomey 1-00, J Toomey 0-01.

The team travelled the short distance in to Wexford to play Kilanerin in a very worth while challenge game on Friday, July 22. Although the home side came out on top in an entertaini­ng game, Derry Gaels who were missing six regulars and picked up a few injuries on the night will have learned a lot from the game, that should steer them in the right direction as we move in to the business end of the season.

The team finished off a very busy period against St Kevins in the league on Wednesday, July 27, with their first defeat in the league on a score of 3-13 to 4-06. Every refereeing decision went against the team and try as they might to overcome these decision they just failed in the
