U-16s through to semi-final Wicklow see off Louth side

Update WICKLOW’S Under-16 team notched up a solid win against Louth in Abbotstown National Sports Campus on Sunday.

This win places them in an All-Ireland semi-final on Sunday, August 14. The team has been participat­ing in a new national ‘Progress to Success’ initiative. The programme involves an All-Ireland championsh­ip competitio­n through two blitz days with teams progressin­g to quarter-finals and semi-finals stages after blitzes.

Recently retired All-Ireland/All Star winner Ursula Jacob (Wexford) is the team’s mentor.

The panel for Sunday’s win were: Amy Barrett, Katie Anne O’Neill, Emily Hadden, Orla Kealy, Sarah Byrne, Emma Cruise, Emma Doyle, Aine O’Shea, Mia O’Connor, Hannah Bevan, Mollie McCormack, Lillie May Cullen Dunne, Holly Eve Cullen Dunne, Brona Ni Mhurchu, Nicole Ryan, Shannagh Goetelen, Jenny Tyrell, Lucy McCabe, Ava Whelan, Sheenagh Byrne, and Kate Campbell. Éire Óg v Arklow Rock Parnells in the Junior championsh­ip; in the Intermedia­te championsh­ip, Kiltegan face Carnew Emmets, and in the Senior championsh­ip, Ballinacor take on Glenealy and Donard-The Glen face Knockanann­a (the latter a replay of last year’s Senior championsh­ip final). Dates for underage games Meanwhile, the Under-8s and Under-10s have a blitz in Bray Emmets on Saturday, August 13.

The Under-13 Autumn Cup kicks off on Friday, August 12, the Under-14 quarter-finals take place next Monday night, the Under-16 championsh­ip starts on Wednesday, August 10.
