Comprehensive victory for AGB Juniors

- LADIES JUNIOR FOOTBALL

AGB Junior Ladies followed up their recent defeat of Newtown with a comprehensive victory over Barndarrig in the Junior ‘B’ championship in Barndarrig on Tuesday, July 26. After a shaky start to the championship and an initial defeat at the hands of St. Nick’s, this panel of players has really begun to gel and the step up in training over the last number of weeks has greatly improved fitness levels and general sharpness.

Barndarrig fielded a young and determined side and challenged for every ball throughout the sixty minutes. They gave a very united team performance with outstanding moments from Una Britton, Ellie Boddy, Aoibhin Stone and Anna Mangan. Mairead Nolan at no. 10 was also very influential for the home side.

Áine O’Reilly, Muireann ní Chonchubhair, and Katie Hurley were very strong for AGB in attack and there were also goals from Aoife Murphy and Emer Curran. Tania Gonzales Ruben is really settling in at corner forward and set up some fine scores. Emma Cox and Rebecca O’Sullivan also took some lovely points for the Arklow side while Becky Hayden, Emily Mitchell and Kayleigh Carter were solid in defence. With a strong panel from which to choose the Arklow side dominated the game and came away with a well deserved victory. AGB now face Blessington in the Junior ‘B’ semi-final on the weekend of 13th -14th August and Barndarrig will take on St. Pat’s in the second semi-final.
