Dwyers and Gaels draw Decent battle in Roundwood

Not for the first time in the game, Pearse Gaels took the game to their opponents but were guilty of some bad wides in what possession they had with the break coming near a move involving Luke Evans and Jordan Murray set up Jock Mockler with a easy task as he slotted over the bar which saw the sides level on a score of 0-05 to 1-02.

Michael Dwyers took the game to their opponents after the break which saw a move by Padraig O’Toole and Aaron Byrne, who set up Stephen Coogan but his shot was dealt with by goalkeeper Kenneth Turner with the pressure on the west Wicklow boys were guilty of two bad wides in a row before Stephen Coogan split the opposition defence before he was fouled which saw Ross Coogan point the free to give side a slender lead of 0-05 to 1-03.

A quick response from the challenger­s resulted in Jordan Muray scoring a point from play to bring the sides level again.

At this stage Pearse Gales produced some magic which saw them score two goals in a space of five minutes. Impressive Luke Evans scored the first while Jack Monkler added the other to give Pearse Gaels a commanding lead of 2-06 to 1-03.

With Luke Evans causing havoc in the Dwyers defence which saw him add two more points, one from a free, while Michael Dwyers responded with a point each from Padraig O’Toole and Jamie Daly, while another attack resulted in a free being awarded which saw Ross Coogan find the net.

The game finished in strong fashion which saw both sides exchange some excellent scores and dual players were very much involved which saw Stephen Coogan, Jamie Daly and Aaron Byrne added a point each before Padraig O’Toole and Luke Evans exchanged a point each which saw the sides deadlocked on a score of 2-09 each.

A Michael Dwyers attack saw Stephen Coogan score a point from play and this looked like the winning score but one last effort from Pearse Gaels saw a move involving players ended with Luke Evans bringing the sides level with a point into injury time to snatch a draw which was no more than both sides deserved.

Both teams will have to show a vast improvemen­t if they are to make a impression in this year’s campaign to become championsh­ip contenders.
