Johnny is not a magician
DEAR SIR,
Everybody has been very quick to talk about what Johnny Magee has done wrong and about his poor record. People need to remember the man is not a magician and if the players aren’t there then there is not much he can do. People have forgot that when Magee took over about 20 players left due to retirement or they couldn’t commit and some of the players he lost were some of the counties greatest.
Going by the first round of the club championship he hasn’t got much to work with. We saw three matches and no team or player stood out. We also heard the Sunday was just as bad.
And maybe the ‘best players’ won’t give the commitment but just because they are good doesn’t mean they should be treated differently. Every other player on the team has to work and train for their place on the team. Fair is fair!
Johnny also has tried to improve our county since he came on board there has being a noticeable difference in the players strength and physicality he also has been up in Ballinakill training the Under-17 footballers when he could be at home with his family. But, no, he is training our underage, trying to improve our future players.
He has stood up and spoke about how us weaker counties are treated unfairly unlike the managers before him.
We were out in Ballinakill on Monday night when the club representatives went into the meeting and we can say that a lot of the club representatives do not attend county matches so why should they get a vote.
Personally we think for any future votes regarding management, players should have a bigger say considering they are the ones who are most affected by management.
We would like to wish Johnny and the team the very best of luck for 2017 and we hope everybody gets behind the team and show their support.
Casey and Shauna Kelly.
