Molly launches ‘Break for the Border’ race
LOCAL European Athletics Champion Molly Scott took time out to launch the inaugural Break for the Border - Carlow to Wicklow 10km & 5km race, which will take place on Sunday October 2nd at 11.00am.
The race starts in Hacketstown, Co Carlow and route heads towards Tinahely, Co Wicklow.
The event is receiving a great response and organisers have guaranteed a professional, well run, timed and chipped event including pre warm-up with the legendary Nahalie Lennon, water/refreshment stations, music throughout the race, all the sandwiches and buns you can eat, a warm welcome and most importantly bling. Customised Break for the Border medals will be presented to the first 300 registered participants across the line. Check out our Facebook page “Break for the Border – Carlow to Wicklow 10km & 5km” to see the medals and the find out more about the race.
As you are probably all aware by now, Molly Scott, one of Irelands finest young athletes won a bronze medal in the 100m hurdles representing Ireland at the European Athletics Youth Championships earlier in the summer.
Molly was only delighted to join the Break for the Border team as the race starts in her locality and she spent her early years running with Hacketstown Athletics Club before moving to St Laurence O’Tooles Athletic Club.
We were thrilled to have Molly launch the event at St Joseph’s National School, Hacketstown, where herself and Gabriel Keane, St Joseph’s NS Principal checked out the route for the race. All funds raised from the event will go towards equipment for over 140 local children attending the school.
We are also going to be joined by members from Adrenaline Running Club, Stonyford Running Club, Tinahely Tri Club, Paul Healy Fitness, St Laurence O’Tooles Athletics Club, Clonmore GAA, Rathvilly GAA, Knockananna GAA, Tullow Athletics & GAA, Baltinglass Fitness, Hacketstown Athletics and many more on October 2nd.
The race has created an amazing atmosphere amongst local business with 40 companies from Hacketstown and the surrounding areas sponsoring the event - most of them agreeing to come along and take part in the race which will cater for professional runners, joggers, walkers and buggy pushers.
