SPEEDING CAR ON M11 HAD BAGS OF DRUGS BENEATH SEAT

A MAN IN his late forties is due before the courts next week after €60,000 worth of cannabis was found in a car he was driving.

Shortly after 5 p.m. last Thursday evening, Gardaí stopped a black Ford Focus car for speeding during a routine checkpoint on the M11 at Ashford.

When asked to produce his documents, the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was unable to produce a driver’s licence.

The car was seized under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act and the man from Dublin was arrested at the scene.

The car was seized under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act and the male from Dublin was arrested at the scene.

He was detained at Wicklow Garda Station under Section 2 of the Drug Traffickin­g Act for questionin­g.

A search of the vehicle uncovered three large bags of cannabis stashed under a seat in the car. Each bag contained a kilo of cannabis herb, with an overall estimated street value of €60,000, pending analysis.

The man is due to appear before Wicklow District Court on September 20.
