few minutes of the half plus two minutes of added time.

Attacking half back Hugh Humby fisted over a point from close in. Ciaran McGettigan scored two points in quick succession followed by a Jordan Pettigrew point from a free.

Shane O’Dwyer closed the scoring for the half with his second point. With Pat’s leading by 0-10 to 0-3 it was clear that Valleymount needed a big second half if they were to have any hope of a comeback.

St. Pat’s got the start in the second half that Valleymount would need. Right from the throw in they split the western defence with an inter passing movement leaving Conor O’Brien with the simple task of knocking it into the net.

With a 10 points gap Valleymount had a mountain to climb. To their credit they responded immediately and went up the field straight from the kick out to score their own goal through James Fitzpatrick.

They were now taking the game to Pat’s and the shots which drifted wife in the first half were now going over. Brian Miley from a free and two quick points from Michael Richardson and Stephan Byrne had the lead back to four points by the sixth minute.

However Pat’s weathered this storm and Donie Fitzgerald pointed a minute later. Stephen Byrne scored again in the tenth minute but once again Donie Fitzgerald responded three minutes later.

Valleymount were battling hard to come back and Stephan Byrne and Glen Cullen were very prominent during the period.

Glen Cullen pointed free and a further point from the same player from play had the lead back to three points coming up to the 20th minute.

Donie Fitzgerald converted a free to ease St. Pat’s nerves. Glen Cullen came back for a point with seven minutes left in the half.

However, the last few minutes were very much influenced by Ciaran McGettigan who scored a point with two minutes left prior to his injury and being replaced by Johnny Carton.

The final score of the game came from Carton himself with a great long range free from out on the left wing. ST.
