NEWTOWN JUNIORS

-

It was two wins from two games for the under-13s as they took all three points away to Wolfe Tone on a 2-0 score line.

Bobby Dowling and Shane Synnott scored the Newtown goals and among the players who starred were Laragh Davis, Shane Dunleavy and Rebecca Gillan.

Everyone in the club and especially the under-13s wish their goalkeeper Sean Bishop a speedy recovery after he was side lined through injury that he sustained in last weeks game.

The under-15s played their first game of the season and unfortunately they tasted defeat away to Wicklow Rovers under-14s on a 3-2 score line.

This was a game where a draw would probably have been a fair result but the name of the game is to put your chances away and then stop the other team from scoring.

We had a glorious chance to go 3-2 up but missed, while Rovers went up the other end to score what proved to be the winner with minutes to go.

The first half of this game proved to be action packed. We took the lead on 23 minutes when Stephen Doran scored at the second attempt from close range.

Rovers went in front with two quick fire goals but we equalised almost immediately when Steven Coughlan crossed for Ryan Smillie to volley to the net.

In the end it was a defeat but it was a game we should have got something from. Onto the next game.

The development squad are back in action and they practise every Saturday morning 10-11am outdoors on the pitch.

All other teams training times have been relayed to the respective players on those teams and if there is changes all players should be notified. The onus is on all parents to make sure their children attend training every week. If unsure of a team’s training times please contact the team’s respective coach.

It was decided that at our latest meeting that membership fees for the 2016/2017 season should remain the same as last year.

The only change this year is that club shorts and socks must be purchased from the club at a set cost. In previous years shorts and socks have been supplied free of charge but unfortunately due to mounting costs this can no longer be continued.

Also please note that only club gear can be worn in matches and no other brand unless said gear is on order. Last Thursday we held a registration night for the under-13 and 15s teams and this coming week we will be holding a registration night for all players from Under-8s to Under-11s.

As is the case with all registrations there is a minimum €25 deposit to be paid on the night with 50 per cent of fees to be paid by the end of October with the remainder due by the end of November.

We have three players from the club celebrating a birthday in the coming week and they are Mikey Synnott from the under-9s, and from the ladies team, Jess Hunt and development squad coach Vicki O’Toole. Happy birthday to all three from everyone at Newtown Juniors F.C.

We will be starting up the ever-popular “Last Man Standing” competition on Saturday, September 24. As per norm the cost is €10 per player and the prize pot is 50 per cent of all monies taken in.

Please support as all monies raised goes towards the youth of the local area.
