Valleymount back in race

- PAT DUNNE

SFL Div. 3 at Valleymount who was on fire, pointed again. William Kavanagh was picking up a lot of dirty ball around midfield and his all round distribution was excellent through out the hour.

Brendan Barton drew a fine save out of Paul Miley and pointed the rebound.

Valleymount went into cruise control for the remainder off the half, with quick ball movement and link up play. Declan Cahill was unlucky not to add a point as his effort unbelievably cannoned of both uprights and back into play.

Brian Miley pointed another free before Glen Cullen pointed after great work by Marcus De Coogan. Enniskerry’s Eoin Byrne pumped in a great ball to the danger zone where Alan King volleyed on it however Paul Miley saved again.

Glen Cullen pointed twice before Ian Kirwan brought a point blank save from the boot of Mick Richardson. Brian Miley pointed a free to leave the half time score, Valleymount 1-12 to 0-07 for Enniskerry.

Valleymount started the second half with a goal bound shot that was put out for a 45 by goalie Ian Kirwan.

Up came Paul Miley, the Valleymount goalie, to take the 45 which landed short and was half cleared by Luke Wrynn. Brian Miley latched onto the ball and rocked the visitor’s net via a deflection to get a dream start for the Reds.

James Fitzpatrick and Steven Cahill each added a point. Jack Conroy pointed in the 38th minute after good work by Eoin Corrigan.

Gavin Barton pointed a free and should have goaled moments later but rose his shot high and over the bar. James Fitzpatrick then hit a monster of a point and William Kavanagh pointed as Valleymount hit top gear. Ian Kirwan brought off a wonderful save from a Glen Cullen effort, however Mick Richardson was on hand to finish the rebound to the net.

Valleymount emptied their subs bench to give the lads a breather.

Enniskerry rallied in the last 10 minutes with points from Anthony O’Neill and Jack Conroy. Goalie Paul Miley split the posts from a 45 to close out the scoring in the final minute.

Enniskerry must regroup and get ready to face Kiltegan in the semi-final of the Junior ‘B’ championship while Valleymount now must beat Kilcoole to clinch second spot in the league to set up a possible final with Laragh in the process.
