COOLBOY RANGERS

-

Under-14s - Came off on the wrong side a much bigger and stronger Athy team in National Cup at lunchtime today going down 10-1.

The Coolboy lads worked hard but were giving the Athy players too much respect and time in the first half going in six down.

Despite the score line, Coolboy kept at the task and were rewarded with a goal by Aaron Corless tipping the ball in from Conor on the left.

However, Athy still kept going and had four more by the end despite it becoming a much better match. Well done to Declan Touhy going into the goal for the injured Paddy Faye at halftime. Despite it being a tough lesson the lads never stopped running and trying to create, a reminder of where we need to get to.

Youth team - The youth team had their first game of the season away to Arklow United, a very disjointed performance saw the lads lose 2-1.

Despite from Liam butler, Coolboy never really threatened the Arklow keeper.

Coolboy went 1-0 down before halftime to a very sloppy goal, this only served to give confidence to a well organised Arklow team.

The second half, the lads had a bit more energy about them. Bradley Walsh restored parity when he followed up a loose ball and finished to the net with a well taken strike, the hard working Liam Butler who was a constant threat, drew a fine save from the Arklow keeper.

Still it was Arklow who were sharper in front of goal and they wrapped up the points when again a defensive error allowed the striker to finish from 15 yards. There is a lot more to come from this youth team, and with a little bit of effort we can give it a real go.

Under-13s - Lost 2-5 at home to Stradbally in the National Cup. Rangers were slow to start and second to the breaking ball in the first hall. Before the half was out rangers were 3-0 down.

These came from balls in behind the defence and fast forwards running onto. Start of the second the real rangers emerged this time ready to play. A long throw from Rory Tallon left Callum Patterson in just enough space to lob the keeper from a tight angel into the far post. Stradbally then get added two more. But Rangers never gave up and Luke Wallace determination dispossess a defender on their end line and crosses for Owen Hedderman to slot home the game

Under-12s played at home and won 1-0. For the first 15 minutes Avonmore pushed us well into our own half with very good defensive play.

Our first attack resulted in our winning goal scored by Marcus Norse with a great individual effort. The rest of the first half was good midfield passing by both teams. Avonmore tried to equalise in the second half and pushed most of their players foreword and subsequently got cut on the counter attack a few times, but Coolboy could not find the net. Great fighting spirit and defending by Darragh Rawson made him a very strong contender for man of the match.
