CARNEW EMMETS

Under-12 Hurling Mini League - Carnew 1-4, Arklow Rocks 6-7 - Carnew had a very bad day at the office when they came up against a very determined Arklow Rocks team on Monday, September 5 in Carnew. Arklow Rocks were strong in key positions on the field and Carnew struggled to get any cohesion in their game. Carnew will be very disappointed in their performance on the night but they will be able to take comfort in the fact that they came out on top on the previous occasion when the teams met and I am sure they will put in a great effort to be victorious on their next outing.

The lotto was not won. Numbers drawn were 1, 4, 18, and 22. Lucky dips were Eirinn Deegan, Coollattin Road, Collette Mulhall, Tomnafinogue. Jack Doyle, Tombrean. Darragh and Thomas Rawson. The next draw is September 26 in McCrea’s and the jackpot is €7,000.

Congratulations to all students on their Junior Cert results.

Congratulations to Willie and Mary Collins on the birth of their son.

The seniors won their game in the semi-final against Glenealy by two points. The minors play Glenealy on Sunday. The Under-14s played Michael Dwyers. The Under-12s played Bray and play Kilmac/ Enniskerry.

The Under-16s play North District.

GLENEALY CAMOGIE

The under-8s, under-10s and under-12s had a great outing to Croke Park to the All-Ireland camogie finals. The 44 girls and 18 adults that went would like to thank the parents who donated towards the outing, McDonalds in Stillorgan for their great service providing the food for everyone, the camogie club for sponsoring Ferguson’s bus. And especially the mentors, Pauline, Amanda, Declan, Brendan, Katriona and Liz who along with the parents who went made the day run smoothly. Special thanks to Anne Hogan for her help in organising everything.

The great sportsmanship and skill seen on the pitch we hope will motivate our own girls in the upcoming matches.

Our Minor team girls are back in training for the Minor Development league matches in October best of luck girls.

COOLBOY

Junior ‘A’ Fixture - Our Junior ‘A’ semi-final match against Kilcoole is fixed for this Saturday, September 24 at 4.30pm in Pearse’s Park Arklow. As we progress in the championship, we need our loyal supporters as much as ever so we hope to see as many local faces as possible. Cúl Buí abú!

AUGHRIM

Well done to the seniors on a good away win in the league to Barndarrig. This win was well overdue and is a credit to the players and management to keep it going when so many things have been against us during the year.

Next up is our final league game against Carnew and our relegation battle with Eire Og so keep an eye out for the fixtures and come along to support these lads.

Hard luck to our juniors who were narrowly beaten by Donard last week but there is light at the end of the tunnel with the return of some of our younger lads to play for the club the future can only be brighter.

LUKE O’TOOLE’S

The under-14 hurlers kept their ‘A’ championship title ambitions alive with a comprehensive win over Bray Emmets in Arklow on Saturday, September 10 on a score of 4-11 to 1-03.

The game was effectively over after 12 minutes when Lukes raced in to a 3-03 to 0-00 lead, however the team didn’t have it all their own way as Bray put up a spirited fight in the second half.

Scorers: John Toomey, 2-00, Matthew Ging 1-02, Diarmuid Lambert 1-00, Jake O’Kelly 0-03, Adam Keegan 0-03, Bradley Hickey 0-02, Jake Murphy 0-01. Team: Oisin Dillon, Shane Arthur, Oisin Dunne, Callum Mutton, Rory O’Dare, Dylan Byrne, Sean Campbell, Jake O’ Kelly, Bradley Hickey, John Toomey, Matthew Ging, Adam Keegan, Eddie Ennis, Diarmuid Lambert, Patrick Faye, Dara O’Shea, Philip Toomey, Thomas Hayden, Jake Murphy.

The under-12 hurlers too had a comprehensive win over Avondale on a score of 9-16 to 3-00 on a wet and miserable Thursday evening , September 8 in Avondale.

The result bodes well for their last game of the season in the mini festival finals in Ballinakill on Saturday, September 24.

The under-16s were surprising losers to Michael Dwyers on a score of 1-22 to 1-09 in the under-16 ‘B’ championship, having already beaten Dwyers only a few weeks ago.

The lads will have to raise their game if they are to get to the ‘B’final.

The Luke O’ Toole’s Minor footballers had a fantastic win against St Kevin’s, 0-12 to 0-05, to go level on points at the top of the table for the ‘B’ championship. With a full team to pick from, there is no reason why these lads can’t go on and win this championship out.

AUGHRIM JUVENILE

The under-12 footballers went down to An Tochar in the mini festival final on Saturday, September 17 in Ballinakill. The lads tried their best but didn’t have much luck. They were 1-04 to 0-02 up with a minute to go to the break but should have been another two goals to the good having hit the crossbar on more than a few occasions, instead they conceded two sucker goals on the stroke of half-time to go in one point down, 1-04 to 2-02. Lorcan Toomey struck for the Aughrim goal while Conail O’Brien 0-02 and Alex Kavanagh 0-02 got the points.

An Tochar came out a different team in the second half and stretched their lead out to four points in a matter of minutes, but further points from Alex Kavanagh and Joe McGuckian narrowed the lead again.

Joe McGuckian then had a goal ward shot saved well and within the space of five minutes An Tochar hit five unanswered points and they were out of sight.

An Tochar added a few more points as the game petered out.

The final score was 2-13 to 1-06. Calum McKenna had a great game in goal for Aughrim while Jack Dowling, Oisin Keegan and Dermot Toomey were the pick of the backs.

Hugh Gunning and Sam Carroll played their hearts out at mid-field but were up against a solid An Tochar midfield.

Joe MuGuckian showed great ball skills in the forward line while Alex Kavanagh and Conaill O’Brien hit some great points.

Team: Callum McKenna, Jack Dowling, Joe McClean, Oisin Coogan, Leo Byrne, Dermot Toomey, Sam Carroll, Hugh Gunning, Joe McGuckian, Stephen O’Toole, Conaill O’Brien, Alex Kavanagh, Lorcan Toomey, Finn Byrne, Zander Davis.

The club would like to thank Pete Carroll and John Gunning for looking after the team all year, the boys did themselves proud, they competed at the highest level for single team clubs and were a match for all teams they played against, so well done lads.

The under-8 and under-10 hurling blitz was called off prematurely by the County Board on Saturday, September 20 in what turned out to be a very nice sunny day, so our guys had no game again.

With both the football and hurling monster blitzes being cancelled during the past number of weeks we await notification if they are going to be re-fixed.

Under-6, under-8 and under-10 training has now finished for the winter. Indoor hurling will recommence on Tuesday, November 1.

The juvenile club would like to congratulate John Keenan, Liam Keenan and Tom Keenan for officiating at the All-Ireland Minor hurling final recently in what has been a very trying time for the family.

They did themselves and the club proud. John has helped out with coaching the kids in the past while his dad, Liam has put decades of his life in to juveniles at both club and county level. Both John and Liam have always made themselves available to referee go games blitzes and we thank them for their continued support.

NEWTOWN

Our seniors were due to play Annacurra in the league last week but it was cancelled as we had some lads playing minor championship with Pearse Gaels.

The senior match is to be refixed for this week so please check fixtures for confirmation, Pearse Gaels had a great win over Blessington in the minor championship and now face Baltinglass in the semi-final. Best of luck to all involved especially our own crew.

Our junior Magpie’s nursery was cancelled last week but continues next Saturday and for the next few weeks at 10am on the pitch. We are now entering the final few weeks outdoors, an hour’s fun and excitement are guaranteed every week.

Congrats and best wishes to our coach Megan on the birth of baby Aidan

The under-12 girls were beaten in the county final by AGB last week.

The girls have been playing at the top level all year and played magnificent they were only beaten by a bit of bad luck and a bounce of a ball.

Panel on the day was: Kaitlyn, Emma, Laragh, Katie, Alicia, Rebecca, Doireann, Alyssia, Alisha, Una, Cody, Hannah, Lynda, Lucy, Grace, Nicole, Shelby, Tia, Claudia, Chantelle, Kim, Caitlin, Rachael, Sarah.

Thanks to Shay, Shayne, Bernie, Kirsty, and Louise for all their hard work with the girls over the year. Well done to Doireann, Alyssia, Cody, Alisha and Una who all played with the county team last weekend in a Leinster blitz.

The girls all played and represented the club at county level getting to a Leinster final but unfortunately they were beaten in the final.

Una did the club proud by captaining the team for the day.

No winner of last week’s lotto, the numbers were 3, 13, 18, and 21. Four people matched three and next week’s jackpot is €5,400. Well done to former juvenile Chairman Paul O’Connor snr, John Heffernan and current juvenile Chairman Shay Power who won tickets to the All-Ireland final.

Deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the late Joe Byrne and Moe Coakley, two great Newtowners who passed away recently.

Sent from the Magpies nest.

ANNACURRA

Commiserations to our under-12s who lost out to Michael Dwyers in the county final. However, it was a wonderful achievement to reach a county final and we hope to see the players in many more in the future.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to our club cake sale, coffee morning and trad session fundraiser on Sunday morning that was a huge success.

Our league match against Newtown that was scheduled for Friday night last is now due to be played this Friday coming in Newtown.

All eyes will on the Hollywood v. Tinahely match on Sunday regarding our senior status. If Tinahely win we are safe and Hollywood will be relegated. If Hollywood win it makes the process a little more complicated.

BARNDARRIG

Well done to Melva Hollingsworth, Jessica Traynor and Roisin Stone who went to Portlaoise on the 17th to play for the county in the under-12 blitz. The club is so proud of the girls’ achievement.

Our under-12 boys team played their final in a sun-kissed Ballinakill on Saturday. A very good Ballymanus team provided the opposition. Cheered on by our loyal supporters, the lads settled into the game very well. There were a few points exchanged early on.

Then a long ball into our attack, Conor and the Ballymanus full-back contested the high ball, it dropped to Luke, and Luke rattled the back of the net. Ballymanus came into the game strongly for the 10 minutes before half-time and led by a point at the half. Aided by a good enough breeze our lads came out very determined in the second half.

Good attacking play saw Luke, Ben and Harry all score goals in a great five minute burst and it gave us a comfortable lead.

Harry, Rian, James, Hannah and Peter defended brilliantly. Some of their well timed tackles were fantastic.

Eoin’s kickouts in the second half were super - long and accurate.

Tadhg and Luke covered every inch of the pitch with their workrate from midfield. Ben worked hard for the team and scored a cracking goal, while Dylan nearly did likewise only for the crossbar to deny him, but he was happy enough with his point.

Christopher was very unlucky to see his shot hit the sidenetting. Up front, Paddy, Harry, Conor and Will all scrapped for every ball to make sure we got the scores we needed to win out. In the end, thankfully we managed to win out a tough match on a score line of 4-5 to 1-7.

Rian and Luke were two proud men to be accepting the cup after a real team performance. Thank you to everyone who came along and cheered the team on - and to Maria for the cupcakes!

Commiserations to Ballymanus who made us fight for every ball right to the end.

Finally, thanks to Hugh Kenny, Kieran O’Shea and all the organisers for all their work in organising a great day in Ballinakill - a lot of work goes into making it all happen.

The lotto numbers drawn in the last draw were 2, 14, 22, and 24. There was one match three winner, Eileen Breen. Well done Eileen.

The jackpot is now €4,300 and tickets are on sale every week in Fleming’s shop, Jack Whites, Jones’ Redcross, Browne’s Redcross, the Garage in Barndarrig and D stores in Brittas Bay. Thanks again to all those who are selling and buying lotto tickets.

GLENEALY

Our Senior and Intermediate hurling teams exited the championship at the semi-final stages last weekend.

The Seniors were up first in Aughrim on Saturday against Carnew, and in a performance devoid of any real championship passion or determination we went out tamely on a 2-10 to 1-11 score line.

We started brightly enough and went into a three-point lead but then conceded a very soft goal through bad defending.

We answered it almost immediately with a well worked goal of our own when good team work sent Leighton through and we were back in the lead 1-4 to 1-2.

Carnew hit back with a point, and them more schoolboy defending let a Carnew player run in along the end line without a hand being put on him for another handy goal.

Both sides tacked on a point and Carnew went in at the break leading 2-4 to 1-5. The second half was point for point with both sides missing opportunities, in the last 10 minutes we had enough chances to win the game, but bad decision making on the ball and a handful of bad wides once again cost us dearly in a game that was very winnable.

On Sunday morning it was the turn of our Intermediates to contest their semi-final in Arklow against Kiltegan.

They were always going to be up against it as Kiltegan were only regraded down from Senior last year, and so it proved.

Our lads gave everything they had but were up against a far superior side, who would probably beat most Senior teams in the county, and ended up on the wrong side of a 4-20 to 2-6 score line.

There was no winner of the jackpot in last week’s club lotto. The numbers drawn were 8, 15, 19, and 20. The jackpot this week stands at €7,700.
