COOLBOY RANGERS

-

Under-12s lost 4-1 - The under-12s good start to the season came to a halt when they met Roundwood. This was a more even game than the result implies with Coolboy having a good few chances that they could not take.

Roundwood scored one in the first half and followed this up with a second just after half-time.

Coolboy then got a goal following some great work by Jamie Purcell. Coolboy then had the best of the chances and just could not put any away, and with Roundwood always looking dangerous on the counter attack, it was they who found the net twice in the last few minutes to make the score line a bit one sided looking. This was a good game with all 16 players getting game time and some great displays from the kids.

UUnder-15s National Cup Coolboy v. Beechwood - This delayed game was played in horrendous conditions. Beechwood won the toss and played with the strong wind at their backs, despite this Coolboy were by far the better team and some good play saw a through ball with Chris Montague keeping calm to put past the goalie.

Despite the poor conditions, Coolboy where involved in some slick play, with Mathew Ging finishing over the keeper to make it 2-0. Second half started well for Beechwood who pressured Coolboy for a good period which eventually led to a goal 2-1.

The rest of the game had some good play from both teams which was at times end to end.

In the last two minutes of the game some good interplay starting at the back through midfield saw Mathew Ging in the penalty box poised to shoot when he was taken out in what was poor challenge, resulting in a penalty to Coolboy. Ging dusted himself down and struck the ball in the back of the net. It finished 3-1 to Coolboy. An excellent team effort in what really was horrendous conditions.

Youths v. Avonmore 1-1 - Coolboy Youths played out a 1-1 draw against Avonmore at home in very poor conditions.

Ross Patterson opened his account with a well taken header from a corner. While Coolboy had the majority of the possession, they found the Avonmore keeper in inspired form; he pulled off several good saves.

Alas, if you don’t take your chances, you can get caught out, as happened in the last few minutes when the Coolboy failed to clear from a set piece; the ball was bundled home from inside the area.

The good performance from the team probably warranted a win, but they had to settle for the draw.
