NEWTOWN JUNIORS

-

Plenty of action last weekend even though the weather is starting to become less favourable.

On Saturday the weather gradually deteriorated as the day wore on.

The under-8s travelled to Bray to take on Wolfe Tone and played out a great game despite the conditions. Leighton Byrne and David McCormack were among the goals while Lucas Dowdall and Leon O’Connor were among the players who starred.

The under-10s travelled to play Arklow Town and goals from Matthew Doyle (2), Jake Robertson and Cormac Chance secured an excellent win.

On the day PJ Duffy, Dylan Dunleavy and Scott McKenna were among those who starred.

The under-11s won 7-4 away to Wicklow Rovers in another high scoring game. Mason Melia and Ryan McMahon both scored hat-tricks while the ever-consistent ‘Own Goal’ got on the score sheet for the second successive week.

Among the players who played well were Ignacy Szpilka, Jack Coughlan and Hannah Martin.

The under-15s put in an excellent all round team display with a 5-0 win away to Wicklow Rovers ‘B’. Andrew McMahon scored twice and there was a goal each for Josh Odlum, Luke Kelly and Steven Coughlan.

Among the players who starred were Conor Kavanagh, Stephen Doran and Andrew Waters. The weather was much better on Sunday even though the results weren’t.

The under-9s played a very good game with Arklow Town in Newtown and among the players who played well were Mikey Synnott, Ryan Collins, William Valentine and Frank Lang.

The under-15s played away to a very good Wicklow Rovers ‘A’ side and were on the wrong end of a 5-1 score line. Bobby Dowling scored the Newtown goal while Ryan Clarke and Sean Bishop performed well on the day.

Due to unforeseen circumstances our Last Man Standing competition has been delayed and will now start up on the weekend of October 15 to 17 (after the international break). As per norm the cost is €10 per player and the prize pot is 50 per cent of all monies taken in.

Please support as all monies raised goes towards the youth of the area.

News reached us early on last Thursday of the sad and tragic passing of Gary Gregory formerly of Season Park.

Gary was a very important member of a very good Newtown Juniors team back in the mid-90s. Gary was a prolific goal scorer at an early age and progressed to be an excellent right back and even excelled one season as a goalkeeper.

To his parents Damien and Bernie, his siblings Joe, Katie and Adam, his sons Tadhg and Mason, his extended family and all his friends everyone at Newtown Juniors F.C. would like to express their sincere condolences on their sad loss. R.I.P. Gary x. May he rest in peace.
