Pat’s and Balto set for battle in county decider
IT’S the biggest day of the club footballing calendar in Wicklow and the 2016 Senior football final between St Pat’s and Baltinglass promises to be a super decider on Sunday.
Weather forecasts suggest that Wicklow GAA supporters are in for a very pleasant day at the county grounds which should only improve the entertainment as AGB and Ballinacor do battle in the Intermediate final from 1.15pm while the Senior clash gets underway at 3.15pm.
The big question ahead of the meeting of Robert Hollingsworth’s and Paul Garrigan’s sides will be will Tommy Kelly play any part in the final. The talented St Pat’s attacker picked up a nasty looking injury in the semi-final against Blessington but Hollingsworth is very positive when asked about his full-forward.
“He’s not a gonner. It’s great to hear everybody saying that he’s a write off. It’s really great top be able to say that it was the best of a bad injury that he got. It was a clean dislocation and they just slipped it back in. He hade an x-ray on it and that showed positive,” he said.
Pat’s are really hungry for the return of Miley after being defeated by their neighbours Rathnew last year in what was a bitter pill for the 2012 champions to swallow.
Baltinglass on the other hand are something of a surprise package for this year’s Senior final having suffered league relegation back in January at the hands of Bray Emmets on a stormy night in Roundwood.
But Paul Garrigan has worked his magic with this young and talented bunch of footballers and Jason Kennedy will lead out his soldiers to battle on what could well be the best county final in years. Don’t miss it.
