Carr and O’Brien land IABA coaching badges

-

ENNISKERRY BOXING CLUB continue to strive to ensure they are well placed to nurture and develop the continued rise in the number of girls participating in the sport of boxing. On Saturday last Eve Carr and Melissa O’Brien of Enniskerry BC both completed their coaching badges with the IABA.

Under the auspices of the newly appointed Female Development Officer within the IABA,Geraldine McTavish the first in a series of coaching courses took place in Drimnagh BC for female coaches over the past number of weekends.Further courses in other provinces are almost fully booked.

Eve and Melissa are among those who are the first to complete their badges under this new initiative and were delighted to learn from the likes of Kelly Harrington,a World Championship Silver Medallist and Olympic Gold Medal winner Michael Carruth.

As Eve says at a time when we are reading about the growing levels of obesity in Ireland and the worrying drop out rate amongst teenage girls in particular from sports it is vital that we encourage female role models within our clubs.

Enniskerry Boxing Club caters for girls and boys of all levels and abilities, whether that is Daina representing Ireland or those who are simply looking for a form of exercise it makes no difference to the club. We are very strong on the idea of being all inclusive.’
