BRAY BOWLS

-

The finals weekend started with a real humdinger on Friday last with the Men’s Handicap Singles. The experienced Stephen Morris was giving 10 shots to the ‘rookie’ Ger Mahoney and in a game that had the spectators gasping with the quality of the bowling Stephen clawed back the deficit and took the title 21/20.

Hard luck to Ger but best of luck in the upcoming 4 Bowl Pairs final.

On Saturday afternoon the weather held firm to allow the Men’s 2 Bowl Singles final go ahead and victory went to Christy McEvoy on a score line of 21/19 against a gallant Alan Rath.

Sunday saw the sunshine on a lovely autumnal day with three finals decided.

The two blue riband finals - the Ladies and Men’s Championships were played in front of a good crowd of spectators, Phyllis Brett took the ladies title with a hard fought victory over Breda Keogh and in the men’s final Owen Byrne won the title for first time with victory over Stephen Morris. Well done to both champions and no doubt both will represent Bray with distinction in next years Champion of Champions competition.

The Men’s 2 Bowl Pairs was the last final played on Sunday and Christy McEvoy and his partner Aidan( Viking) Galvin were too strong for John Dunne and Tiernan Kavangh. Well done to Christy on what was a very fruitful weekend.

Next week will see the last two finals to be played - the Men’s 4 Bowl Pairs and the Mixed Triples. The official opening of the refurbished clubhouse will take place this coming Friday, October 7, at 7.30pm and all members past and present are invited to attend.
