NEWTOWN JUNIORS

-

In what is probably a sign of things to come the rains came last Saturday morning and put paid to the games involving our under-8s and under-10s.

The under-11s did play however at home to Enniskerry and emerged 4-3 winners after a titanic game (excuse the pun!).

Mason Melia scored twice to make it eight for the season, Ryan McMahon scored his fourth of the season while Aaron Cawley opened his account for the season. On the day among the players who starred were Paudie Gammell, Hannah Martin and Eoghan Fox.

The under-13s also won narrowly at home winning 3-2 versus Arklow Town ‘A’. This was an excellent game of football with loads of chances at each end and if players on both sides had shown a little more composure more goals would have been scored.

The goals Newtown scored were excellent finishes and the goal scorers were Ryan Clarke, Fionn O’Reilly and Darragh Heffernan.

On the day among the best players were Rebecca Gillan, Jason Carthy and Shane Dunleavy.

Our Ladies team received a walkover from Shelbourne ‘B’ and this game completed their summer league programme.

It has been a hard season for this team competing in the Premier league but this can be put down to the fact that 14 of last year’s squad were unavailable to play this year. Well done to the players who did put in the effort during the season, it was very much appreciated.

The under-9s and 15s games were postponed earlier in the week.

Well done to Steven Coughlan, Luke Kelly and Stephen Doran who were all part of the WDSL under-15 county team who played away to NEC last Sunday.

The Development Squad is back in action and they practice every Saturday morning 10-11am outdoors on the top pitch. Cost per player each week is €2 (€3 when we practise indoors).

Two players from the club celebrate a birthday in the coming week and they are under-11s goalkeeper Aaron Hackett and Amy Guilfoyle from the Ladies team. Happy birthday Aaron and Amy from everyone at Newtown Juniors F.C.

Due to unforeseen circumstances our Last Man Standing competition has been delayed and will now start up on the weekend of October 15 to 17 (after the international break). As per norm the cost is €10 per player and the prize pot is 50 per cent of all monies taken in.
