SUDDEN DEATH SHOCKS CLUB

Forbes collapsed soon after match

A MUCH ADMIRED member of Wicklow Hockey Club collapsed suddenly after a game on Saturday and tragically passed away.

Popular married father-of-two Forbes Vigors had been a member of the club since 2007. A large attendance is expected for his funeral taking place in St Patrick’s Church tomorrow (Thursday) morning.

TRIBUTES TO Forbes Vigors have been flooding in following his sudden passing after a hockey game on Saturday.

The Wicklow Hockey Club member collapsed and tragically passed away in the car park of East Glendaloug­h School shortly after playing as goalkeeper in a 2-0 victory for the Wicklow club over Pembroke Wanderers at Nelson Park.

Forbes formerly lived at Dale Park in Arklow and was living at St Manntan’s Road, Wicklow town with his family at the time of his passing.

His funeral takes place tomorrow (Thursday) morning at 11 a.m. in St Patrick’s Church, Wicklow town, followed by interment in Rathnew Cemetery.

He is survived by his loving wife Carmel, children Evie and Grace, mother Anne and brothers Derek and Graeme.

He was a player, coach and secretary of Wicklow Hockey Club, whom he joined in 2007. He also held the position of captain and Vice-President during his time with the club.

Members of the club are ‘completely devastated’ by his death and pass on their condolence­s to Carmel. Evie and Grace.

Forbes was strongly involved in junior coaching and was extremely popular with the children he trained. A notable off the pitch achievemen­t was this year’s Clubmark Quality Award, which Forbes played a vital role in making a reality as Club Secretary.

He began his hockey career with Kilkenny College and became part of the Carlow team who rose through the ranks to reach Division 1 in Leinster with just twelve players. Before joining Wicklow, he played with South East Wanderers.

He was a Senior Engineer on Road and Tunnel Safety for Transport Infrastruc­tural Ireland and worked there for over ten years.

Prior to that he worked as a Regional Road Safety Engineer in the Regional Design Office, Tramore House.

He had also just recently joined Wicklow Tennis Club this year, along with Carmel, Grace and Evie. Club President Robert Earls and members of the executive committee have extended their sincere sympathy to his family and friends on his untimely passing.
