Michael Doyle gets some revenge as he shaves barber Michael Merrigan’s hair at Anne’s wax and shave for Wicklow Cancer Support at Shay Doyle’s in Rathnew.
SUPPORTERS of Ann Douglas pulled out all the stops as they stepped forward to undergo some painful waxing and not-so-painfull shaving in aid of her Wicklow Cancer Support fundraiser.
Ann is currently undergoing treatment for cancer and, with the support of her family, she decided to hold a sponsored shave and wax locally in Doyle’s of Rathnew.
The pub was already packed well in advance of the removal of the first clumps of hair as crowds jostled for the best vantage point.
Ann’s brothers, nephews and close friends all got involved, either forgoing the hair on their head with a simple shave or undergoing the more excruciating process of having their legs waxed.
MC for the night, Marion Murphy, prompted plenty of other hardy souls to step up to the plate and agree to get involved.
One punter had his back waxed, but by far the most eye-watering sight of the night was one volunteer who agreed to let his wife give him a bikini wax.
A grand raffle was also held at the end of the night. Not all of the sponsorship cards have been collected yet, but already an impressive €6,000 has been raised.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and qualified therapists will be available by appointment each Friday offering free head, shoulder, hand neck massages at the Wicklow Cancer Support office.
