Henderson’s men go in search of hurling glory in SHC final

-

IT’S the weekend every hurling man and woman has been waiting for in Wicklow. This Sunday sees the meeting of Bray Emmets and Carnew Emmets in the eagerly anticipated rematch of last year’s decider which was won relatively easily by John Henderson’s men.

But this year is different. This year Carnew go into this game having already defeated the Bray men in the championship[ earlier on. This win will mean nothing but it will give the Wexford border men more belief and considering their young stars are now a year older and stronger we can expect a much closer battle come Sunday in Aughrim.

However, waiting for Casey O’Brien’s men is a team chasing a three-in-a-row and managed by one of the finest practitioners of the ancient game and one of the shrewdest hurling brains within the borders of the Garden county to say the least.

With warriors like John Henderson junior, Diramuid Masterson, Peter Kiely and Arran Murphy to compliment the stunning attacking force of Christy Moorehouse and Mikey Lee, then Casey O’Brien’s men can expect a serious battle if they are to wrestle back supremacy in the world of Wicklow hurling.

Ahead of that game there will be the meeting of Bray Emmets Intermediate team and the men of Kiltegan in the Intermdiate hurling championship final. This prmosies to be a very entertainingt clash and Paul Porter will throw in the ball at 1.15.

On Saturday there are two hurling compeitions up for grabs. At 2.30pm in Pearses’ Park in Arklow Avondale will face Eire Og Greystones at 2.30pm in the Billy Byrne Cup final and at 4pm the Dessie Murphy Cup final takes place between Glenealy and St Pat’s with each side eager to claim silverware.

The Junior ‘ C’ footballers of Kilcoole and An Tochar are also in action in the decider of that competition in Ashford at 3pm.
