COOLBOY RANGERS

-

Youth Team - A 10 man youth team travelled to Rathnew more in hope than expectation today. Rathnew went 1-0 after seven minutes, then quickly added a second and third the game was over fairly quickly as a contest and injury to Lorcan added to the woe as Rathnew added goals 4-5.

Still the lads kept at it and were duly rewarded when Brad finished smartly into the bottom left corner, following some great work by Conor Kennedy and Ross Patterson.

Understandably getting tired Rathnew added two more, so it finished 8-1, I cannot fault the lads in their attitude, it was a tough harsh lesson but they kept asking more questions.

Under 15s - Newbridge started the game fairly strongly with poor play in first five minutes from Coolboy normally solid back line had Caomhin making a spectacular save to his right.

There were a few shots from Coolboy buy none really asking much of the keeper. Half time 0-0. It was a great passage of play from Tom kinsella whose through ball found Mathew Ging, who coolly slotted in the back of the net. Right on full time, a free kick just inside Coolboy half was floated into the box, a mistake led to a Newbridge goal, 1 -1.

Extra time was needed. Coolboy dominance led to few fouls with one resulting in a free kick ,the ball was cleared out to Mathew Ging who buried the ball into the net 2 -1 Coolboy.

The rest of the game was fairly even with both teams trying to play football. Well done to all of the lads.

Under-13s won 8-2 away to St Anthony’s in Kilcoole. Callum Patterson got the first 10 minutes in curling a beauty in to the top corner. Luke Wallace headed in the next & Callum got another.

St Anthony’s determination got them one back. In defence, Ruiri O’Brien, Odhran Doyle, Gavin Murphy, Jake Kelly were doing really well. Billy Molloy made two excellent saves at crucial times.

At this stage the Coolboy midfield pairing of Macdara O’Neil and Rory Tallon began to get the upper hand and released both, Owen Hedderman and Niall Maxwell, who each scored.

St Anthony’s kept at it and got a second. But then in a 10 minute spell Wicktor Kosinski scored a hat-trick. A good performance all round from the whole team.

The under-10s lost 4-1 today to Avonmore - the score doesn’t fairly reflect the possession or football played but it’s only balls in nets that count.

This is the first time the team have played together and left nothing behind them giving 100 percent - Ryan O’Neill consolation goal in the dying minutes

Under-12s - Coolboy travelled to Roundwood on the back of a drubbing from the same opposition two weeks ago, the team stepped up their performance from that day and played on the front foot for most of this game. Coolboy had a few chances with Jamie Schoeb, Ryan Conway and Jamie Purcell playing good football.

Ryan Hilliard directed the play from midfield with Lorcan Fitzsimons coming on to add to the attack making Roundwood work hard to keep the score down. 10 minutes to go Maurice Hedderman went on a run from defence and working with Lorcan he edged the ball to Rua DeFaoite who struck the ball to the net, 1-0.

Rua got on the end of a through ball and was taken down in the box. Jamie Schoeb stepped up to put it away.

The second half saw Round wood exert a bit more pressure on the Coolboy defence but Darragh Rawson seemed to always come away with the ball and continuously frustrate the home team.

15 minutes to go Roundwood eventually made the break through with a well taken goal. Coolboy continued to pressure at the other end, with Roisin Kirwan adding to the midfield battle.

Roundwood took advantage of a mistake from a kick out to draw level. 2-2 was the final score .This was a good team performance and shows that they are improving with every game.
