THREE CASTLES ROWING

Three Castles Rowing Cub have had a busy eight days to kick start the 2016/17 season. This past weekend scullers took part in the first assessment­s at the National Rowing Centre in Cork to select crews for national teams for the 2017 season.

The clubs junior 18s Oisin Clune, Tadgh Mc Knight, Rory Quinn and David Gilheany performed very well in single and double sculls and all finished with high rankings in a field of 53 juniors.

The assessment­s will continue through the winter months with final selections at the end of March.

The Olympic silver medalists Gary and Paul O’Donovan were fastest overall in the senior singles and doubles and Sanita Purspure won the women’s singles.

Also this weekend three members from Three Castles took part in the Dublin Sculling Ladder at Islandbrid­ge. In the time trial for single sculls Aaron Keogh and Luke Flynn came first and second in the under-15 section.

Becky Quinn just lost out by half a second to B Larsen from Garda BC in the women’s senior event.

On October 1, 12 members from the club travelled to Offaly Rowing club for the Tullamore time trial held on the Grand canal at Cappincur.

Rory Quinn recorded the fastest time in the junior 18 event followed closely by Tadgh Mc Knight, Oisin Clune and David Gilheany.

Becky Quinn won the senior women’s and Aaron keogh the under-15 mens. Luke Flynn, Josh Riley and Caolan Higgins all recorded good times in the under-15 event. Rob Gilheany and Emily Irwin had their first race in singles in the under 14 event.

John O’Keeffe raced in the Masters sculls. All promising results for the start of the season.
