LARAGH LIGHTING WORKS CONTINUE BUT CONCERN OVER ACTIVATION

-

DISTRICT Engineer, Paul Byrne, updated the elected members on a number of engineering projects currently taking place within the Wicklow Municipal District at Monday’s meeting.

Public lighting works at Glendalough and Laragh remain ongoing. Mr Byrne said that over the next couple of weeks the bases for all the public lights should be ready but that the lantern heads for the lighting may take a bit longer and the local authority may have to wait until January 2017 until they are delivered.

Existing ducting already exists which should bring down the costs of the works, he said.

Members also heard that thirty-two light columns will be put in place from the cottages up to the visitor’s car-park.

Cllr Shay Cullen felt the lighting would be a great addition of the area.

‘It’s one of the busiest spots in the county with regards to people walking so this will be great for locals and visitors alike.’

However, Cllr John Snell had concerns over how quickly ESB tend to activate new public lighting.

‘Four public lights were put in place beside the playground in Rathnew over a year ago and they still haven’t been turned on. The ESB are holding it up.

‘I certainly wouldn’t like to see 32 lights left for that period of time. ‘

Meanwhile, National Transport Authority works have started on the Brockagh Resource Centre junction and should be finalised in November.

A slight design change from the original plans was required to allow buses to turn.
