Comfortable victory for rampant ’Drum women

- AIL QUALIFIER LEAGUE

Sammy McCoy fed winger Caitlin Olohan on the right wing, Olohan easily outpaced the Old Belvedere full back to open the scoreboard for Rathdrum.

Despite the restart, Rathdrum found themselves once again on defense for the next quarter of the game. However, in a mirror to the opening minutes Rathdrum applied such pressure that Old Belvedere were caught in reverse. Player of the day Sammy Mc Coy wreaked havoc time and time again on Old Belvedere’s offense with some fine examples of text book tackles.

The next score of the day came Rathdrum’s way from a well executed lineout. Rathdrum’s confident backline found full back Orla Redmond who, despite being 45 meters from the tryline made no mistake in her route. Redmond stepped and outpaced the defence to score in the left corner. Redmond let loose to add one more score before the half-time whistle sounded, and the game sat at 15-0.

In the second half Rathdrum chased hard for a bonus point. Although there was some mix of composure throughout the game, when phases came together for Rathdrum they outclassed the Dublin side. Eventually through patience, the bonus point score came from the ever prevalent no. 8 Ann Marie Burke.

As Old Belvedere tired, Rathdrum maintained the pressure and the final score of the game was to come from newcomer Patricia Byrne.

Despite being only her second appearance for Rathdrum, Trish confidently took the ball at pace, ducking and diving through the defensive line to touch down in the left corner.

The game finished with a clean sheet for Rathdrum, and the women now prepare for a well earned weekend off.
