Magic day of rugby at Ashtown Lane as Enniscorthy pay a visit
WICKLOW RFC Minis’ Section played host to Enniscorthy RFC at the weekend with all age groups from under-7s to under-11s in action at Ashtown Lane. Wicklow’s under-12s travelled to Enniscorthy to play their County Wexford counterparts.
Playing in mild, dry conditions, the kids enjoyed a great blitz at home. Enniscorthy travelled with almost 100 players between the different age levels.
Once again the players had the chance to put their training into practice and at all levels they did their coaches proud demonstrating their skills to good effect in games that were played in good spirits. This was the under-7s’ second blitz of the season and 24 young players took on the visitors with some highly entertaining rugby ensuing. At this level the kids play Leprechaun Rugby which allows them experience rugby in a safe, fun based environment. The emphasis is on getting an enjoyable start to rugby.
The under-10s also turned out in force for the blitz and gave a very good account of themselves. There was some great passing and tackling on display and the boys took every scoring chance that presented itself. One of the highlights was a passage of play which saw the Wicklow boys defend their line to the last and repel attack after attack eventually breaking free to set up their own scoring opportunity. All games were played in good spirits with players retiring to the clubhouse for some well earned refreshments afterwards.
