Bray need to build on this

- BRAY WANDERERS REACTION

A quick recap of the news from 14/06/2016 features Brexit and the US presidential debate. Also occurring on that day, but with not quite as much coverage, was the permanent appointment of Harry Kenny. While not much has developed in the former pair, everything has changed for the latter.

He took over a club that was joint bottom of the table and were completely deflated. He took one man’s trash and made it into his own treasure.

He broke club records left, right and centre. He steered the Seagulls out of their nosedive and then piloted their rocketing ascent into the top half of the table. As Mick Cooke’s assistant, he had been the bridesmaid but it would eventually prove to be the perfect marriage.

The Shamrock Rovers Hall of Famer has probably put himself on high alert for his former club but he has already committed to another term at the Carlisle Grounds. If he can take a freefalling side from joint bottom to sixth, what can he do with a side of his own?

While Dylan Connolly, Ger Pender et all grabbed the headlines for their antics on the pitch this season, it is Kenny that made it all possible. It is Kenny that put the fire in their belly and the belief in their minds.

In years to come, the record books will show it was just another season for the Co. Wicklow club. A good season, sure, as they finished comfortably clear of trouble but it will all be for nothing if they do not build on it.

Kenny has already began that process by sitting down with this season’s squad and he also has his eyes on other new recruits. 2017 has the potential to be the most exciting one in Bray Wanderers’ history but before that, let’s celebrate the 2016 term in style with victory over Cork City on Friday.
