COOLBOY RANGERS

-

Under-10 - The under-10 white started off their season with a win against Arklow stripes today in blustery conditions in Coolafancy - the first half was the more difficult playing into the wind and going in at half-time 2-1 down but the second half was all Coolboy with a great team effort they finished at 6-3. Scorers: Conor Hamilton - 2, Fionn de Faoilte -1, Ryan O’Neill -2 , Dean Carthy – 1.

Under-11 – Under-11s lost 4-3 to Avonmore team. The lads played really well, unfortunately losing out to an odd goal. The scorers Eddie got two, Corey got one, goal of the season so far.

Under-12 – Under-12s Coolboy 1, Carnew 1. Scorer: Ryan Conway. Coolboy had most of the play in the first half but unfortunately went behind to a badly defended corner early on.

The team recovered well and eventually got a deserved goal in the 16th minute with Marcus Norse laying on a easy tap in for Ryan Conway.

Coolboy continued to play most of the football but found Carnew a hard team to break down.

Carnew improved in the second half with a few more chances than in the 1st half and limiting Coolboy’s chances a lot more.

Coolboy still had some chances but could not convert any of them. The game ended 1-1 with a good performance from Coolboy that just lacked some finishing touches.

Under-14 – Under-14s result Greystones 5, Coolboy 1: Scorer: Conor Clinton. In a very blustery Greystones, Coolboy just didn’t seem to be able to deal with the strong wind, Greystones scored the first after a ball floated into the area and a Greystones player calmly placed it into the net.

A second was scored when another ball floated in from the by line held up in the wind and just tipped the keepers fingers to fall into the net.

Coolboy then woke up a bit and started to press and challenge and were rewarded with Conor running into the box and striking the ball into the net 2-1.

Coolboy were then denied what was felt to be a clear penalty with Conor pushed in the back running into the area.

This could have change the complexion of the game as Coolboy were gaining confidence at this point. Second half got under way and unfortunately again the wind was playing havoc and another ball in just evaded the keepers grasp.

Greystones were awarded a penalty, which the Greystones player slotted home, despite the Coolboys keepers best efforts.

Greystones finished it off with another near time.

Coolboy while they had some good passages of play just could not deal with the conditions and did not challenge and press with enough conviction, but they did keep going, it just wasn’t our day.

Youth - Youth team went down 2-1 to Ashford away from home on Saturday. Despite being completely in control for the first half and taking the lead through an audacious chip from Ross Patterson, it was a different story in the second.

The old adage about taking your chances rang through as the team squandered several excellent opportunities to finish the game.

Unfortunately we failed to take them, following injuries to our wide men, Bradley and Liam, we had to change our shape a little.

Ashford scored an excellent equaliser playing some lovely touch and move football.

So 1-1 the game was in the balance, Coolboy continued to press for the win, but a long ball from a free kick saw all our lads stand still while allowing an Ashford player to head home unopposed. We did keep trying but couldn’t break them down.
