Search begins for €500k Lotto winner

- By DEBORAH COLEMAN

The search for a lucky winner is on after a Baltinglass shop sold a €500,000 winning lottery ticket on Saturday.

The Lotto Plus 1 ticket was purchased at O’Reilly Stores, Parkmore and everyone in the community is now keen to find out who the prize winner is.

‘I was here myself for a lot of the day and we sold a good few tickets,’ said shop proprietor PJ O’Reilly. ‘ There was a wedding on that day, and even though it was a local couple, the guests could have come from anywhere. We have no idea who it is, but I don’t think anyone who won that amount would announce it anyway,’ he added.

While the National Lottery has appealed to players to check their tickets, as the lucky winner purchased a €7.50 Quick Pick, PJ and the staff at O’Reilly’s are delighted to have sold yet another big winner.

‘ This one is the largest prize yet but we sold a quarter of a million euro winner a few years ago and last Christmas we sold a €100,000 winner at our shop in Hacketstown so we have have a few big ones. Last week a young man bought the last two €1 scratch cards on the roll and I said “there’s money on them”. He came back a few minutes later to say he had won €500. We are always happy to find out we have sold a winner,’ he said.

The lucky winner now has 90 days to claim their prize. A spokesperson for the National Lottery said that a winner had not yet come forward at the time of going to press.
