scored”. The try was converted by Megan Parkinson who had taken over kicking duties.

Just before half-time with some fantastic pick and drive Rugby punching holes in the visitor’s defence the ball again was moved to Kayleigh Sullivan who dotted down for her hat trick.

This try was duly converted by Leanne who had returned to play. This left the score at 31-3 at half-time.

The second half kicked off and Wicklow started to ring the changes with Mariona Puig Rodes making here debut for the club and Ruth Traynor who was playing at this level for the first time.

They were quickly into their stride again with the lively Megan Parkinson scoring a try which was converted by Leanne Sullivan.

Like the first half this score by Wicklow appeared to have a galvanising effect on the visiting team and their Captain Samantha Byrne touched down after a sustained period of pick and drives by their pack which also led to Wicklow’s second yellow card for Marelyn Cristin Kallas.

The tackling by the Wicklow back row of Karen Douglas, Andrea Petru and Chloe Chapman was keeping Arklow at bay during another period of pressure and with a turnover from prop Leah Fisher, there came the try of the match with Wicklow winger Alana Sheridan getting the ball deep in her own half out on the left touchline.

Sheridan produced a searing bit of pace to outflank several defenders and then, just as it looked as if she was running out of space, cut a sharp line back to the posts to touch down and leave an easy conversion for Leanne Sullivan.

Arklow came back strongly again with the big physical pack and tries for Samantha Byrne and Rachel Cooney put a fairer reflection on the scoreboard leaving the score with a couple of minutes to go at 45-22.

The scoring was wrapped up by Rachel Griffey who drove over from about 10 meters out following good work by the Wicklow pack and scrum half.

This finishes off a very successful 2016 for the Wicklow senior ladies who earlier this year toured Canada and continue to go extremely well in Leinster Division 3 with 44 points out of a possible 45.

They will however face a tough second half of the league with away matches against the sides in the four positions behind them in the table.

The girls are still looking for ladies who are interested in learning a new sport or returning to rugby to join them for fun and fitness on a Friday evening. Any queries please call Ronan Griffey on 0868357475.
