CARNEW RUN AMOK Seaview sensationally dumped out of Wicklow Cup

at Bridgewater Centre Park of the game.

Seaview looked down and out but they were given a glimmer of hope right on the stroke of halftime when Conall McCrea was dismissed for a second yellow card after pulling down Nevan O’Sullivan as the midfielder threatened to break away on the counter.

At the start of the second half one might have expected a second half siege on the Carnew goal with the away team down to 10 men but it was anything but.

In the opening minutes some wonderful build-up play from Behan and PJ O’Keeffe ended up with Brendan McCrea waltzing past several Seaview defenders with ease before finding the net.

Carnew seemed intent on making things difficult for themselves, and obstruction from a Seaview player to break-up a Carnew attack caused tempers to flare, culminating in Sean Kinsella seeing red for a petulant flick of the boot on a member of the opposition long after the whistle had gone.

There is never a good time to go down to nine men but Carnew certainly picked an opportune moment, 4-0 up with blistering pace on the break.

Indeed, Carnew seemed unfazed by the loss of two key players and perhaps even a little bit inspired.

Inspired is one of the few words which can do justice to their fifth goal. A corner was cleared well out of the danger zone, or so it seemed.

From all of 35 yards out, James Behan struck a sensational looping volley into the net to complete his hat-trick in style. Seaview pulled a goal back through a deflected effort from Conor Harris but this was quickly cancelled about by an excellent lob from PJ O’Keeffe, who enjoyed a fine game.

Carnew came close to adding their seventh when they were awarded a penalty but Adam Doyle failed to convert.

However, this only prolonged the inevitable and good work from Justin House left James Behan in on goal with all the time in the world to slot home for his fourth of the game, an impressive days work.

In the closing stages Nevan O’Sullivan earned a penalty for his side and Alan O’Shea beat Cormac Doyle to round off what was a dark day for Seaview Wanderers.
