Wicklow Town cruise to sweet victory over Arklow United

- GAVIN FORDE

at Finlay Park back into the game often taking the ball from deep in his own half and taking on the strong Wicklow backline, but unfortunately for the Arklow side defenders Ryan Dwyer and Gavin Gaffney stood firm.

It wasn’t long before Wicklow got back to scoring, this time deservedly Jordan Sinnott getting on the score sheet with the assist again coming from Calum Kelly who now had two assists in the game.

The goals kept coming for Wicklow with no response from the Arklow side, Gavin Gaffney picked out Reece Kelly with a wonderful long ball who rounds the keeper and slots into an empty net on the 60th minute.

Sean Algera wrapped up his hat-trick soon after that when the Arklow defence left the striker unmarked at the back post and punished them by heading the ball into the net from a corner to make it 6-0 to the home side leaving no way back for Arklow United.

Youngster Dylan Kavanagh came on as a late for Wicklow Town and quickly made an impact on the left wing and asked questions of the United defence.

The substitute quickly got on the score sheet after a rebounded shot from Paddy Murphy came back out to Kavanagh who took the ball on the volley and rifled his strike into the net to make it 7-0 .

The final nail of the coffin for United came in the 85th minute of the game when Kavanagh scored his second of the game and the final goal of the game making it 8-0.

Despite the score, Arklow United keeper Dean Flood Hayes had a great game and the score would have been a lot more but only for Flood Hayes. United have to be admired for battling throughout the game from start to finish but credit goes to the Wicklow side scoring eight goals and controlling the game from start to finish with a wonderful display.
