What an adventure!

Henderson steps down as Bray boss

-

IT’S been some ride for the Bray Emmets Senior hurling team over the life of John Henderson’s leadership but on Monday afternoon that adventure came to an end with the announcement that the former Kilkenny legend and his management team have stepped down from their roles in the club.

John Henderson brought a precious threein-a-row to the club this year and he shaped a team that are by far the best team in Wicklow hurling at this moment in time.

From the narrow victory over Glenealy, to the 2015 destruction of Carnew, and to the managerial masterclass he gave between the final and replay earlier this year, the man and his team have left behind a void that will take some serious filling.

‘On behalf of Bill Maher, Liam Kenny, Olan Savage, and myself, I would like to take this opportunity to let you know that we have decided to step down after completion of our three-year term, in the role,’ read John Henderson’s statement on Monday.

‘I would like to thank all the people behind the scenes who helped in any way over the period, to Joe Barnes and Colm McDonagh who were superb kit and logistics men; Cameron Mc Keever the physio; to the many hurley carriers as well and to Brenda, Anne, Debbie, Francis and others who kept the kitchen going over that period.

‘To Pat Lee, Michael O Byrne and Jackie Napier in their support roles, Anne Healy and Dermot O’Brien and Liam McGraynor and the club management, for all their support, to the vocal and colourful supporters who followed us everywhere we went, we thank you greatly and I know that we have shared many lifelong memories together.

‘Last but not least to all the players for achieving so much to date and who continue to write history every time they take the field, I hope they go on to achieve their full potential, both on and off the pitch.

‘I finish off as I started reminding everyone of the words on our famous club banner written and crafted so many years ago, it is as relevant now as it was then: “United we stand, divided we fall”, Yours in Sport, John Henderson’.
