CAR PARKS MAKE THE MOST INCOME

-

Fifty-seven per cent of paid parking income from Wicklow town is generated from the car parks at Church Street and Abbey Street.

The remaining small car parks spread out around the town account for between two to four per cent of total paid parking income.

Speaking at Monday’s meeting of Wicklow Municipal District, David Porter, District Administrator, said the majority of the income comes from car parks, with street parking accounting for the remaining paid parking income.

‘Most of the parking takes place on the Main Street, in the two main car parks and centre of the town parking,’ said Mr Porter.

Cllr Shay Cullen had requested a break-down of the income Wicklow Municipal District receives from paid parking.

‘I want the break-down so we know where we are at. What is the revenue for places to park that aren’t based in the town centre?

‘ Take Leitrim Place for instance. Should we have any paid parking there at all? Can we make some concessions in some places?’

Cllr Gail Dunne felt doing away with paid parking spaces at Leitrim Place could result in motorists parking there for the duration of the whole day.

A review of the parking byelaws will be included on the agenda for the first District meeting of 2017 taking place on January 23. The main thing councillors will have to decide is the schedule in Wicklow town. THE closing date for Estate Development Grants has been extended to give interested parties more time to apply.

Wicklow Municipal District have a fund of €8,000 available for county council resident associations to help with the development of an estate management programme.

Twenty-four applications were received, four of which were not eligible because they weren’t local authority estates.

The grants are aimed at assisting and improving the overall running of local authority housing estates.

Forms were emailed out to the 20 applicants but only four forms were returned before the deadline because most people never received the initial email because it went directly to their clutter folder.

‘We haven’t got all the forms back together. The closing date has been pushed forward because not everyone got their forms. Only four have been received so far but more are due to come in,’ said District Administrator, David Porter.

The Estate Development Grants will be included on the agenda for the Wicklow Municipal District meeting of January 2017.
