COLÁISTE BHRIDE 4-03 ST KEVIN’S CC 1-05

COLÁISTE BHRIDE CARNEW are having their best year ever in girls football in Wicklow Post Primary Schools.

They recently qualified for the Senior ‘A’ final and on Tuesday they travelled to Dunlavin in atrocious conditions for the Junior ‘A’ semi-final and emerged victorious against the local St Kevin’s CC team.

Despite the horrific weather the girls on both sides played very well on the day.

The Dunlavin side proved to be determined as they battled hard and scored a goal and a point in quick succession to lead at half time

Coláiste Bhride were much improved in the second half. Dunlavin tried to score more goals but found Shanyn McLoughlin in top form in the Coláiste Bhride goal.

There were fine efforts also by Carnew defenders Lauren Byrne and Zoe Takus while the forwards hit three goals into the Dunlavin net. The opposition was quick to answer with four points in quick succession however Carnew dug deep and secured a few vital points.

Others to impress for the winners were Abby Doyle, Aishling Wintherbotham, and Rebecca Barnes.

Scorers for St Kevin’s were Katie Maguire 1-3 and Niamh Kelly 0-2 while Casey Kelly and Rachel Murtagh also impressed. Referee was Jimmy Lawlor.

Colaiste Bhride’s opponents in the final are still not known as the other semi-final between Scoil Chonglais and Dominican College had to be postponed due to an unplayable pitch. GIRLS JUNIOR FOOTBALL B There was some consolation for St Kevin’s here as their ‘B’ team travelled to Greystones and overcame St David’s in a thriller.

St Kevin’s seemed well in control at half time after taking advantage of a strong wind to lead by 7-5 to 3-1.

However, the Greystones girls made a great comeback in the second half scoring 2-8 against a single point by the visitors but when referee Eddie Leonard blew for full-time it was St Kevin’s who were in front by 7-6 to 5-9. BOYS FOOTBALL The final of the qualifier for South Leinster Junior football ‘D’ between Scoil Chonglais and Avondale CC had to be postponed due to a waterlogged pitch in the Centre of Excellence in Ballinakill.
