Just rewards for Amanda
AMANDA BUTLER from Donard-Glen Camogie Club has been named as Wicklow’s Camogie Volunteer of 2016. The Volunteer of the Year Awards are run by the Camogie Association and Amanda will join volunteers from each county at a special awards ceremony lunch in Croke Park Stadium on February 4.
Amanda comes for a sporting family steeped in GAA tradition. She has been involved in camogie since her playing days when she won four senior championship among other accolades. She also won Wicklow Camogie Player of the Year in 2004.
Since finishing her playing career, Amanda has continued to work for and represent the club where ever possible. She has coached many underage teams and imparted her love and knowledge of the game to generations. While coaching, she has also held many positions on the executive in the club and represented Donard-Glen at county board level. Amanda also represents Donard-Glen Camogie Club on her local GAA committee.
Amanda is first in the field for all training sessions and last to leave, opening the premises, turning on and off the flood lights and locking up at the end of the session. The word “no” isn’t in her vocabulary as she is called on for all sorts of jobs from refereeing, lining out the pitch to jersey washing and many other jobs besides.
Amanda exemplifies the best in attitude and practice of volunteering and Wicklow Camogie County Board is delighted to recognise her commitment.
