THE DEADLY DOUBLE Coláiste Chill Mhantáin teams win two Leinster crowns

- CRAIG FARRAR Sports Reporter

COLÁISTE CHILL MHANTÁIN will certainly remember Tuesday, December 20, for a long time to come as the school triumphed in not one but two Leinster Schools Development Cup finals.

Earning the opportunity to play in Donnybrook Stadium is an achievement in itself for these sides but by all accounts they proved themselves to be worthy champions by putting on a superb display of rugby for the students who had travelled to support their peers.

The senior side was captained by hooker Mark Nicholson and certainly took to the occasion like ducks to water.

The game was never really in doubt, and after the final whistle the result was a comprehensive 41-10 win over St. Ciarans Community School from Kells.

This gave Coláiste Chill Mhantáin the perfect start to the day, with Nicholson lifting the Anne McInerny Leinster Schools Development Senior Cup with massive pride.

Things would get even better for the Wicklow school but they were certainly made to work for their second triumph of the day in the junior final.

Facing Ardscoil na Trionoide of Athy, Co. Kildare, Coláiste Chill Mhantáin pulled off what was by all accounts an excellent comeback to win the game by a score line of 32-29.

Cormac Fenton, who lined out in the back row, captained his side to victory and will certainly have been proud of the character displayed to come back and win the Pat Rossiter Leinster Development Junior Cup in the second half.

While huge credit must go to the players on both the senior and junior sides, the architect of the double triumph was manager Joe Duffy who deserves credit for pulling off the difficult feat of managing two sides to cup final victory in the same year.

Duffy and both his teams have certainly represented their school in style!
