All the fun and frolics at Ryders Field!
THE annual Glencormac United Christmas charity games took place once again take place on December 27 in Ryders Field.
The first game saw the coaches looking for revenge after last year’s defeat against Karl Bradshaw’s under-13 Squad for the Joe Molloy Memorial Shield.
The (very) experienced coaches ran into an early 2-0 lead playing some beautiful before the under-13s pulled it back to all square in what was a very entertaining encounter.
The turning point in this game came when coaches’ manager decided to substitute ‘Mull’ (Colm Mulligan) with a 100 times capped Irish International called Damian Duff just after ‘Mull’ had scored to make it 3-2 in the coaches’ favour and this seemed to unsettle the balance of the team and the under-13s ran out 7-5 winners.
Mary Molloy presented the shield to winning captain Sam Morgan after the game and the club are grateful to the Molloy family for their support and the Irish Heart Foundation are also grateful for the monies donated to their organisation in memory of Joe.
After that game, it was the turn of the present Glencormac team to take on the slightly over-35s squad for the Benny Finnerty Memorial Cup.
James Delahunty gave the present team an early lead before Justin Dutton equalised.
The present team then took over and led 4-1 before a Damian Duff penalty made it 4-2 and then they slowly pegged it back to 4-4 after 70 minutes.
However, the younger legs proved vital in the end and three goals without reply saw the present team seal the win.
The proceeds go to Bray Cancer Support Group in the memory of Benny Finnerty. The club wish to offer a massive thanks to referee Mick Kennedy for doing both games and to all who donated on the day with over €600 raised less expenses been split among the two organisations.
“Thank you for your support
